Henri Chau - My name is Henri Chau. I have been attending HOH since seventh grade. Heart of Hope has been an incredible part of my life and development as a person. It has taught me many lessons about empathy, compassion, patience, and leadership. Wherever I will be, I will still think of myself as part of the Heart of Hope Family.
Claire Lee - Hi everyone, It’s hard to believe that after eight incredible years in this heart of hope, my journey is coming to an end. Being part of this organization has meant the world to me—it’s been more than a title or a position. It’s been my home, my community, and the place where I’ve grown into the person I am today. Serving at HOH has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I’ve learned that being a leader isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room, but about lifting others up, listening, and leading with heart. Along the way, I’ve created unforgettable memories and friendships that I know will last a lifetime. To Mrs. Lo and all the teachers—thank you for your constant support and encouragement. Your guidance has helped shape the leader I’ve become, and I’m so grateful for your impact on my journey. I’m excited to share that I’ll be attending UC Davis in the fall to study Managerial Economics. And no matter where life takes me, every time I see purple and yellow, I’ll remember this house, this family, and everything we built together. Finally, with Mother’s Day just around the corner, I want to take a moment to thank my mom. Thank you for being my biggest supporter, for standing by me through every late night, every challenge, and every success. Your love, strength, and sacrifices have made all of this possible. I wouldn’t be here without you, and I hope I’ve made you proud. Thank you all—for the memories, the friendships, and the love. This organizaiton will always be a part of me.
Naomi Lin - Hi everyone, my name is Naomi Lin, and I’m so honored to be speaking here today. I’m incredibly excited to be attending UCLA in the fall, but before I begin that next chapter, I want to take a moment to reflect on something that has been a huge part of my journey for the past eight years: HOH. Being a part of HOH has truly shaped the person I am today. This program has given me more than just memories—it’s given me purpose. Through the years, I’ve grown not only as a volunteer but as a leader and an officer. Most importantly, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with and support children with special needs, who have taught me far more than I could ever put into words. Their joy, resilience, and honesty have inspired me every single day. HOH has shown me the power of compassion and connection. It’s helped me discover who I am and what kind of impact I want to make in the world. I am so grateful for every moment, every friendship, and every lesson this program has brought into my life. And I am incredibly grateful to Mrs. Lo for being my mentor throughout the years and teaching me life lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today. Thank you to everyone who has made HOH the family that it is. I carry everything I’ve learned with me into the future—and I will always carry this experience in my heart.
Christopher Khaing - Hi I’m Christopher Khaing and when I started at HOH I was a member. I remember I was anxious and had issues socializing but being at HOH all these years has helped me grow out of my shell. I would like to thank everyone here and Mrs. Lo for helping me in this journey and I truly believe that these 7 years have truly helped me become a better person. Thank you!
Tyrik Chen - Hi everyone, First, I want to thank Ms. Joanna Lo, the founder of Heart of Hope, and everyone in this incredible organization for this honor. I am deeply grateful to be standing here today, reflecting on what these past seven years with Heart of Hope have meant to me. When I first joined Heart of Hope, I could not have imagined how much it would shape the person I am today. Through every event, every smile, and every moment shared with our special needs community, I learned lessons that no classroom could ever teach: patience, resilience, compassion, and above all, the true meaning of service. Heart of Hope is more than just a volunteer organization. It is a family — a family built on unconditional love and a genuine belief that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated. Ms. Lo, your vision has not only touched the lives of those we serve, but it has also transformed the lives of those of us who serve alongside you. Your example reminds us that leadership is about heart, and that hope is something we can give — and receive — every single day. This scholarship is not just a financial gift; it is a reminder of the journey we've taken together and the responsibility I carry forward. Wherever life leads me, I will always strive to reflect the spirit of Heart of Hope — to lift others up, to advocate for those who need a voice, and to serve with humility and joy. Thank you, Heart of Hope, for believing in me. Thank you for giving me a place to grow, and for showing me that small acts of kindness can light up the world. I am honored, and I am inspired to continue this mission wherever I go. Thank you!
Josephine Cheng - My name is Josephine Cheng and I will be graduating from Walnut High School this year. I have had the honor of working with Heart of Hope over these last 7 years, and this program has taught me many invaluable lessons. I have enjoyed getting to know all of you here, and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to recognize you all. All of you have made this community so much more meaningful and welcoming, and I have enjoyed every moment I’ve spent here. I’d also like to specially thank Mrs. Lo. She gave me this opportunity that I cherish so greatly, and I will be forever grateful for that. I am grateful to Mrs. Lo for being my mentor and supporter over the past few years and for encouraging me to become the person I am today. I also want to thank all of my friends who have helped me have so much fun at Heart of Hope. You all are a part of the reasons I have been with this organization for so long. Heart of Hope holds a special place in my heart, and it will continue to do so. Thank you!
